Officials say deputies with Greenville County Sheriff's Office responded on Friday to Airport Road about a disturbance.
According to officials, GCSO deputies requested help from the Greenville Police Department and when they arrived, they encountered an armed man in a parking lot.
During the encounter, the man who was later identified as Matthew Healey, 57, was shot and taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to officials.
Officials say no deputies or police officers was hurt during this incident. According to officials, SLED has been requested to help investigate this incident by GCSO.
This remains an ongoing investigation.
